Australia is burning. Our country is suffering and needs our help. The fires raging throughout the nation are causing damage and destruction at unprecedented levels. Reports to date suggest that over 5 million hectares of land have burned, over 1,500 homes have been lost, 23 lives have tragically been taken, with more people missing, and some 500 million of our animals and wildlife have perished. Our hearts are breaking.
It is our moral duty to do all we can to help during this very difficult time. It’s wonderful to see so many Australians reaching into their pockets to assist a wide array of charities supporting the fire services, the people who have been affected by the fires, and the helpless wildlife who have suffered tremendously. We’re looking to do the same, and we’re calling on you to help us make a difference.
With our deep love for the animal kingdom, the team at Erstwilder have decided to throw our support behind WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.), Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organization. WIRES has been doing some incredible and important work rescuing and caring for native animals for over 30 years. To offer support where it's needed closer to home, we will also be supporting Wildlife Victoria and the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Further details can be found below.
Even after the fires eventually subside, it will be impossible to know the full extent of the damage to our ecosystem and loss of animal life for many more months. However, as WIRES has correctly pointed out, even before the fires began, many animals were already battling with drought conditions, and now, with so much of their habitat and food gone, our Australian wildlife is facing severe challenges for long-term survival. They will need all the help they can get.
With your help, our support for WIRES will assist them in the rescue and care of countless animals who are sick, injured or who have been left orphaned and homeless by the ongoing devastation brought on by the Australian bush fires.
HOW WE ARE HELPING:
For all sales on ERSTWILDER.COM on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th of January we’ll be donating 100% of sales to WIRES. Additionally, we will continue to raise funds for the rest of the month of January, including sales from our major January launch, by donating $1 for every brooch sold. We'll be splitting these additional donations between Wildlife Victoria who are assisting with the rebuild of facilities and equipment for carers to continue rescuing and caring for animals in Victoria, and the Victorian Bush fire Appeal which sees Bendigo Bank and The Salvation Army partnering to support Victorian communities that have been devastated by the fires.
